Ein

Overview

Ein is the male Welsh corgi living aboard the Bebop in Cowboy Bebop. His brown-and-white coat, upright ears and short legs look canine, but he is a data dog with human-level intelligence. The official introduction places his origins in secret research at an unnamed institution. That contrast between an ordinary-looking dog and unusual intelligence defines the character. His debut in Session 2 connects a serial pet thief with researchers trying to recover stolen experimental material. Spike's pursuit of a bounty brings the crew into contact with Ein, who subsequently lives with them. His arrival therefore links a routine bounty investigation to interests the hunters did not initially understand. He often accompanies Ed, including their search for food and involvement with mushrooms in Session 17. The television series also shows him operating devices; Wikipedia's character reference identifies examples involving a telephone and a gaming device. These are particular demonstrated acts, not a basis for inventing unlimited control over machines or information. Ein remains part of the crew in the animated film, whose official character guide again stresses the contrast between his canine appearance and human-level intelligence. His role is understood through shared life aboard the ship and observable behaviour rather than a human bounty hunter's career or equipment. The inspected official introductions do not specify an age or birthday, so neither value has been entered.
