Mikasa Ackerman

Overview

Mikasa Ackerman is a soldier in Attack on Titan. She has lived alongside Eren Yeager since he saved her life as a child, and treasures the scarf he gave her. It is a recognizable possession connected to their shared past. This profile primarily concerns her characterization and battles in the first anime season. She graduates at the top of the 104th Cadet Corps, combining exceptional military ability with a powerful attachment to Eren. She is not simply assigned to follow him everywhere: during their first battle they serve in separate units. Anime episode 6 places her memories of meeting him alongside the fighting in the present. At Trost, dwindling gas supplies prevent the recruits from escaping with their maneuvering equipment. Mikasa proposes moving toward the military headquarters despite the Titans around it and takes the lead. She subsequently acts on Armin's idea to use a Titan fighting other Titans to open a route, with Connie providing support. Even her abilities operate within the practical demands of supplies and teamwork. When Eren emerges from a Titan, she becomes involved in the confrontation with Garrison soldiers who fear him. The person she wants to protect now possesses a power that might help humanity but also terrifies it. During the recovery operation she has to evade attacks from his uncontrolled Titan form: familiarity and trust alone cannot resolve every danger she faces. The relationship among Eren, Mikasa and Armin is not a simple arrangement in which one always protects the others. Her fighting skill, Armin's ideas and Eren's power each help their friends in different situations. Their cooperation at Trost provides a way to understand her strength beyond her graduation rank: what matters is how she uses it to keep people alive alongside her comrades. Yui Ishikawa voices Mikasa in the Japanese anime, and her birthday is February 10. Kanon Nanaki plays her in the musical's 2024–2025 Japanese return engagements. Attack on Titan: Junior High exaggerates her difficulty functioning away from Eren for comedy; that spin-off characterization should not be confused with a numerical limit on her abilities in the main story.
